Horses in Colour

This series of paintings delves into the timeless essence of the archetypal horse, using vivid layers of color, symbols, and texture. The simple equine form is dominant yet integral to the background - through the excavation of the canvas, scarred by scratches revealing hints of meaning buried below. Applied in improvised, expressive strokes of acrylics, inks, powder pigments, charcoal and glazes of colour , each image resonates across cultures and centuries.

Upon closer inspection, the artwork reveals traces of buried symbols, of collaged paper, evidence of palette knife and brushwork scraping back to previous strata. The creative process is like an archaeological dig, reflecting the way that mythical motifs evolve yet remain rooted in our collective consciousness.
